Welcome Riders
About the Ride
The Second Annual Cycle to Serve Bicycle Challenge has several new twists. The course has been improved in several ways. The first twenty miles will be the same, but after that the 100K route goes in a different direction. Thanks to some new paving of county roads, riders will only have to cross one major highway (321) after leaving Lenoir. The route is almost completely rural, along lightly trafficked roads with many beautiful views. (See the cue sheets for detailed route information on the 100K and 42m routes.) Again this year, there will be 18-20 course marshalls to assist riders, sweep out curves, slow traffic, and assist with any problems. All riders will finish behind Main St. in Lenoir, and take part in a free, pot luck dinner provided by the Rotary Clubs of Lenoir and Caldwell County.
The top five riders in the 100K and the top five finishers in the 42 mile ride will have their pick of cakes prepared and donated by locally reknowned cooks and bakers. You can take your prize home, or share it with other riders and spectators at the finish line! First finisher gets to pick first, then the second finisher, then the third....
Two motorcycle units from the NC Highway Patrol will lead out the pack and set the pace for all those who can keep up. There will be three aid stations, and three SAG vehicles patrolling the courses to help riders with any problems. This is a very safe ride, but it is an open course and riders are encouraged to obey all traffic laws.
The ride starts at 8 A.M. on Saturday, May 10. Registration and packet pick-up is available on Friday evening as well as Saturday morning. The first 300 riders registered will receive a customized pair of DeFeet cycling socks.
